Ordinance No. 08-06

An Ordinance of the City of Avon Park, Florida,

establishing an Illegal Immigration Relief Act,

and providing for an effective date

             WHEREAS, this will be known as the “City of Avon Park Illegal Immigration Relief Act” ordinance [too bad the Native Americans didn't have this ordinance when the Pilgrims arrived - that would have been genuine cause for an illegal immigration relief ordinance]; and 

            WHEREAS, illegal immigration leads to higher crime rates [if you want lower crime rates, jail politicians and CEOs], contributes to overcrowded classrooms [but Florida has a class size amendment...you know the one Jeb keeps asking us to re-vote on?] and failing schools, subjects our hospitals to fiscal hardship and legal residents to substandard quality of care [ummm...that would be HMOs and insurance companies], and destroys our neighborhoods and diminishes our overall quality of life [don't hear a peep out of these folks about the quality of life destroyed by rapacious developers, phosphate mines or agri-business, do you? And how, exactly, does a diverse community destroy your quality of life unless you define "quality" as "racist"]; and 

            WHEREAS, the City of Avon Park is empowered and mandated by the People of Avon Park to abate the nuisance of illegal immigration by aggressively prohibiting and punishing the acts, policies, people, and businesses that abet illegal aliens. 

            WHEREAS, any for-profit entity, including acts committed by its parent company or subsidiaries [hope they don't have any Wal-Marts in Avon Park], that aids and abets illegal aliens or illegal immigration shall be denied approval of a business permit, the renewal of a business permit, city contracts or grants for a period of no less than five years from its last offense. Aiding and abetting shall include, but not be limited to, renting or leasing to illegal aliens or funding or aiding in the establishment of a day labor center that does not verify legal work status. Any act that aids and abets illegal aliens within the United States [no delusions of grandeur here, eh?], not just within the city limits, will constitute a violation; 

            WHEREAS, illegal aliens are prohibited from leasing or renting property. Any property owner or renter/tenant/lessee in control of property who knowingly allows an illegal alien to use their property shall also be in violation. Any person or entity that violates this shall be subject to a fine of not less than $1,000.00; and 

            WHEREAS, the City of Avon Park declares that English is the official language of the City. Unless explicitly mandated by the federal government, the State of Florida, or the City of Avon Park, all official city business, forms, documents, signage, telecommunication or electronic communication devices will be conducted or written in or utilize English only [OK...most electronic devices are "written in" programming languages If somebody really wanted to get technical, the City of Avon Park has just outlawed UNIX. And P.S. English is not the Native Language of the United States...city officials may want to check with some Native Americans on that.].
